SILASWOOD SAPODILLA (Manilkara zapota)
SILASWOOD SAPODILLA (Manilkara zapota)
Grafted SILAS WOOD SAPODILLA (Manilkara zapota). Ship with pot. Our grafted plant is "true-to-name" and will fruit sooner.
This RARE DWARF Sapodilla variety produces fruit when young, holds on the branches for several months until it ripens becoming soft when ready to pick. The sweet fruit can be scooped out with a spoon and tastes like brown sugar. Grow in full sun and hand-pollinate to ensure fruit set if grown indoors. Although optimum minimum temperatures are 60°F, it can tolerate temperatures down to 35°F for short periods. ‘Silas Woods’ is well suited for pot culture as it can easily be maintained at less than 5’ in height while still producing an abundance of fruit.
This Sapodilla variety may need to be supported in earlier years. Silas Wood Sapodilla fruit is spherical, ranging 2 to 4 inches in diameter, with an unassuming pear-like caramel brown skin.
Sapodilla are related to Mamey Sapote, Star Apple, and Canistel and are known by many names around the world including Mispel, Zapote, Dilly, Chico, Chico sapote, Zapote chico, Zapotillo, Chicle, Sapodilla plum, and Naseberry, among countless others.
